Strings Alive!

The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra will provide, free of charge, stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, or string bass) for any student who has an interest in learning to play that instrument. The purpose of the Strings Alive!! program is the eventual participation in the Preparatory Strings Orchestra and the Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra. It is the desire of the MYO to enrich the student’s life with music, self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Learning to play an instrument will benefit a student in many ways and provide him or her with a way of expression.

The MYO has set forth the following guidelines:

  • The student must express an interest in learning to play the violin, viola, cello or string bass.
  • The student must take private music lessons. Financial assistance may be available for these lessons.
  • The student may use the instrument that is owned by the MYO for approximately one year. This does not apply to those students playing the string bass. The MYO conductor and private teacher will determine the specific length of use for that instrument.
  • The student will be responsible for the care and routine maintenance of the instrument.

Interested students are asked to contact the MYO office at (615) 849-3803 or write:
